Bed Bug Treatment

What To Do Right Now If You Think You Have Bed Bugs

Life gets crazy, and when an unexpected problem pops up, it seems it is never a good time to address it; there will always be a better time, another day, or another reason to put it off. However, while some home repairs can be put off for a few weeks, as long as safety isn’t a concern, bed bug treatment is not one of them.

Bed bugs are super gross, feed off human blood while you sleep, and like to hide in the same places where you like to relax – in and around your bed frame, mattress, and box spring, and even inside your sofa. If that’s not enough to get you jumping into action, bed bugs also breed at an alarming rate; in a single day a bed bug can lay between 1 and 12 eggs.

Now that we have your attention, here is what you should do as soon as you suspect a bed bug infestation, to help limit their spread and make bed bug treatment easier.

1. Verify the Pest
Before panicking and throwing out all your belongings (something you probably won’t have to do anyway), take a moment to identify the precise pest that’s living in your home. There are many insects that very closely resemble bed bugs, including carpet beetles and ticks, both of which are fairly common and easier to deal with than bed bugs.

You can identify bed bugs primary by where you are finding the evidence. As previously mentioned, bed bugs like to live close enough to their food source (that’s you), but remain out of sight, so verify the area around your bed, including underneath wallpaper and behind mouldings, and places like sofa, chairs, and cushions. If it is bed bugs, you are likely to find yellow eggs or shells, and/or tiny reddish and brown stains.

2. Call for Specialized Bed Bug Treatment
Despite what you may find circulating on the internet, there really is no way to permanently rid yourself of a bed bug infestation without professional help. A professional bed bug treatment will safely and effectively eliminate the problem from your home, including taking care of furniture, sofa, and mattresses (remember earlier, when we said that you shouldn’t throw them away?).

3. Fight the Urge to Go and Stay With Friends or Family
As disgusting as the thought of sleeping next to bed bugs may be, they won’t kill you, and because you called for professional bed bug treatment right away, it won’t be for long. Even if you can’t see them, bed bugs are sneaky, they can hitch a ride in almost anything – clothes, purses, backpacks, coats. While your parents may love you, they probably won’t be too impressed if you bring your bed bugs along for a sleepover.
