Mice Control in Hamilton During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Staying positive during the COVID-19 pandemic has proved a difficult task for most of us. Our lives have changed dramatically since the onset of being quarantined – job loss, working from home, taking extra precautions while doing routine tasks outside the home, home-schooling our children… It can certainly feel overwhelming!

Yet there has been an upside to staying inside during this time. Many of us have discovered that we now have time on our hands to do the things we always seemed to be too busy to tackle. Reconnecting with far away family members through online sources such as ZOOM, reading that great novel, getting into shape (or falling out of shape!), learning to bake bread, and of course, finally getting to all those household tasks we’ve been putting off.

Enter Spring Cleaning! As we scrub our cupboards out, move furniture around and dust the baseboards, we may discover that we have unwanted guests living in our homes. Mice! Needing mice control in Hamilton can be a stressful situation at any time, but especially during a quarantine.

Here are some signs that you may have an infestation:

Droppings

The first and most obvious sign is finding droppings in places such as cupboards, under sinks or along heaters. They are small, dark brown pellets usually in groupings. Make sure to wear gloves and disinfect any areas you find them in with a solution of bleach and water. Do not vacuum the droppings, it can release toxins into the air.

Hearing them

No, you’re not crazy and your house isn’t haunted. Mice are generally active at night and can be heard in the walls or attic when it is quiet.

Damage to your home

Mice love to sharpen their teeth on electrical cords and walls. Be sure to check all the cords in your home if you suspect a mouse problem, as damaged cords can lead to serious fires. Also, be sure to check out the boxes and bags in your pantry for holes or chew marks.

Seeing one

Possibly the worst of all, seeing a mouse scurrying around in your home.

If you find any of the above, there are things you can do to help solve the problem. Mouse traps are easily available from hardware stores – the most popular being snap traps and electric traps. If you have small children or pets, it may be prudent to use an electric trap over a snap trap. Fill any small holes you find with steel wool and/or caulking and seal all food sources in glass or plastic containers. Don’t leave food out on the counters and make sure to wipe all surfaces down after meal prep, as mice are able to survive on very little food.

If solving the issue alone is too stressful, thankfully pest control is considered an essential service during COVID-19. One such company is Beacon Pest Control – they’ve been serving Hamilton and the surrounding areas for many years and understand the emotional impact of having a mice infestation in your home.  Call them when you need mice control in Hamilton.
