Step-By-Step Wildlife Exclusion Instructions

Wildlife exclusion practices are a great way to protect your family, home and business from unwanted visitors.

I love exclusion for 3 main reasons:

  1. Using the proper products and techniques, exclusion is very humane as it is designed to deter animals and rodents from entering a building not to harm them.
  2. Exclusion does not use chemicals.
  3. It provides immediate, long term and often 100% protection.

The following is a step-by-step overview of how I would prevent raccoons and skunks from gaining entry under a deck:

Step 1: Identify the area of concern

exclusionsa On the bottom right hand corner of the deck we can see the entry / exit hole of a skunk. Before proceeding with wildlife exclusion I made sure that there were no animals under the deck (sounds silly outlining this but it is really important).

Step 2: Trench

exclusion2Minimum requirements are to dig down 2 inches and out 12 inches but I prefer to extend both.

Step 3: Instal exclusion

exclusion3I always try to make this both aesthetically pleasing and secure. However, if I have to pick between the two I always choose to make it secure.

Step 4: Finish it off

exclusionbThe best part of any job is being done.

I always recommend using a professional Exterminator to provide wildlife exclusion as effective habitat modification requires awareness of animal behaviour and physical capabilities.
